Overview The Metasys® system family of Field Equipment Controllers comprises a group of versatile field controllers that can be switched between using the N2 or MS/TP communications protocols. In MS/TP mode, they are BACnet® Master-Slave/Token-Passing (MS/TP) network-compliant field controllers designed to monitor, control, and integrate a wide variety of HVAC and other building equipment. In N2 mode, they can be used to maintain or modernize sites with installed legacy Johnson Controls® controllers. This family of controllers includes the Advanced Application Field Equipment Controller (FAC), Field Equipment Controller (FEC), Input/Output Module (IOM), VMA16 (16- and 32-bit), and VMA18 Series Controllers, which integrate into the web-based Metasys® system. Note: The IOM modules are not capable nor required to work as N2 devices as they communicate through the SA bus from a field controller. The VMA18 Controller's embedded capabilities, in addition to its modular accessories, make it well suited asareplacement for legacy VMA14xx Series Controllers. VMA16(16-bit) Series Controllers (models VMA1610and VMA1620) are also part of this family of controllers but cannot be configured as N2 Controllers. The FAC, FEC, IOM, VMA16(32-bit),and VMA18 models feature an advanced design that provides optimum performance and easy access to power, network, and field terminations. These controllers come with 32-bit microprocessors to meetandexceeddemandingindustry standards. Some FEC models includeanintuitive UI with an integral LCD screen and a 6-button navigation touch pad that provides enhanced local monitoring of your controlled field equipment. For demanding environments, such as rooftop applications, extended temperature range models are available that provide accurate control over a wider operational temperaturerange.Look for the ET (Extended Temperature) suffix in the controller model. The Field Equipment Controller family integrates easily withthe NS Series Network Sensors, the ZFR1800 Series Wireless Field Bus system, and WRZ Series Wireless Sensors. The VMA1615 and VMA1630 support the WRZ Series Wireless Sensorsusingthe WRZ-78xx One-to-One ZFR System Wireless Receiver. These products complement the FEC family of controllers and enable enhanced capabilities in both wired and wireless field controller network applications. Figure 1: Metasys System Field Equipment Controllers A widevarietyof network sensor modelsprovidesoptions for measuring and displaying zone temperature, duct temperature, zonehumidity, carbondioxidelevel, setpoint adjustments, fan speed control, and discharge air temperatures. The ZFR1800 Series devices use open wireless technology standards, including Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) 802.15.4 and ZigBee® technology, to provide flexibility and reliability.
